DOWNSOUTH

DownSouth is a moral-dilemma adventure game where your choices affect your sanity. Players will understand their own identities through the demand for decision making, deciding whether or not the lives of others are worth the value of their own survival. As circumstances drive you to change your desires you can either seek refuge in killing, quell your greed with sympathy, or fall into the realm of the morally grey. The choice is yours.

SANITY

South is reliant on a euphoric stimulant with severe withdrawal effects called "P40z". Seeking a steady supply, South is sought out by the corporation responsible for P40, who offer it as a reward as long as he can mercilessly eliminate gone-rogue clients. With his sanity at stake, the degree to which South should sacrifice his ethics in order to obtain P40z is up to the player.

At higher sanity levels, South is swift-moving, brightly coloured, and has a total of 5 unique dialogue options that he can use to interact with other characters. He's far faster than his environment but is particularly weak and highly susceptible to being damaged by potential foes. If players should choose to eliminate clients, South's Soul Points will begin to degrade, and his colourful appearance, unmatched dexterity, and diverse dialogue options will crumble until he is nothing but a de-saturated, uncommunicative killing machine.

WORLD BUILDING

A gloomy downtown city area that condones hedonistic delight. The opening and most commonly re-visited setting in the entire game.

  • Tutorial level

  • Contains first pieces of narrative

  • First instance where players learn mechanics (Movement, Combat, Enemy encountering, Crates, etc.)

LoveBox city is partially inspired by places like Brooklyn, Detroit and downtown Vancouver, with high rising buildings that obscure the sky, busy landscapes and an overall unorganized tone. Although the city is quite murky and unwelcoming, it is filled with vibrant advertisements for P-40 and other products.
